Chapter 271 Nuisances Article 1 General Regulations 271-4 Snow and Ice Removal
The Smithsburg Police Department is charged with enforcing the Municipal Code of the Town and any violations thereof.
The majority of violations result with non-compliance in property maintenance as listed below.
The 2015 International Property Maintenance Code, adopted by the Town of Smithsburg in April 2016 and regulates the conditions and maintenance of all properties within the municipal boundary.
Grass and Weeds
Section 271-3 of the Town Code state that no person shall permit any growth of weeds, grasses, or brush in excess of a height of 12 inches to remain on any lot or parcel of real estate located within the corporate limits.

Snow and Ice Removal
Section 271-4 of the Town Code requires the removal of snow and/or ice from the public sidewalk area within the deeded area of that real property within 24 hours after the precipitation creating the snow or ice conditions has ceased.

Unregistered or Abandoned Vehicles
Section 378-28 of the Town Code prohibits unregistered or inoperable vehicles from being parked or stored on private property unless concealed from public view in a fully enclosed garage. It is also forbidden to use on-street parking for unregistered or inoperable vehicle storage.

Nuisance Abatement Ordinance

This form should be completed for all property maintenance complaints relating to matters of nuisance, health, safety, weeds, grass, vehicles, structures, etc. All complaints should be made in writing and submitted to the Smithsburg Police Department.
